Are You Seeking Salvation?

Salvation is a pretty common word these days, but the Bible tells a scandalous story of God providing salvation for mankind from his own wrath. The storyline is pretty simple, but the implications are overpowering, and indeed has overwhelmed millions throughout the ages. The idea of a divine designer is becoming popular again in the culture of physicists, biologists, and intellectuals as they continue to observe and dialogue more about the organized complexity we know as our universe, but the Scriptures have revealed this truth from the beginning and endured many phases of unpopularity. We know that it is the God who is described in the Bible that wonderfully created this earth because that description is also found evident in the mysterious laws of nature. We are also convinced of this by the record of human history, the reliability of the Scriptures, the fulfilled word of the Prophets, and the reality of the person of Jesus Christ.

The Bible teaches that in our choice to choose God’s way of life or our own, we have invariably chosen our own. It also teaches that the evidence for God’s reality and the abundant advantages of his path are so clear that God has the right to bring us to justice whenever we veer from his perfect law. The Scriptures teach that the offense of disobedience is such a devastating evil that eternal death for the individual is a fair sentence. This idea is generally unpalatable for the Western mind, but I’m just telling the story.

The Good News of Jesus Christ is “the rest of the story”! God is fair in setting boundaries and enforcing them, and His love is perfect in that He has sacrificed of Himself to provide a way out of the death penalty.

Romans 5:6-8 teaches:
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

And that’s just part of the Good News, Romans 10:9-11 says:
“That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame!" (exclamation point mine)

This is awesome, but there’s more (I know I’m starting to sound like an “as seen on TV” salesman, but this truly is something to get excited about), Romans 5:9-11 says:
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”

I would encourage you to place your trust in your Creator. I certainly do not have the corner on the market as far as showing people the way to Christ, but I would be happy to pray with you and help you solidify your decision to follow Him. I would encourage you to obtain a Bible (they are free of charge at AWC) and read First John, which is different from the Gospel of John. I also encourage you to become a part of the Body of Christ by participating with the Christian community. Baptism by water is an incredibly important Christian ritual and is something that you should investigate and do. Please contact me with any questions and if you have just begun your journey along the Christian path please share this good news with me or with a Christian friend, whose life you trust.

Some of these disconnects have intellectual solutions, which this bood provides, but the emotional acceptence remains difficult.
